Founder & CEO Sarah Watkins steps down from Parentskool CIC
Sarah Watkins started Parentskool in January 2011 with zero finance, two children under 2, no experience of running a not for profit and a burning desire to make a difference. Five years on and the Parentskool experience has been shared with hundreds of mothers and fathers to be, from all walks of life, from many backgrounds and socio-economically diverse groups.
From the initial idea to getting the Antenatal Course accredited with the Department of Health CAN Parent scheme, Sarah worked tirelessly to bring the Parentskool dream alive. She has today announced her resignation from the role of CEO and will be replaced by the wonderful Kerry Fox.
Kerry is one of Parentskool’s longest standing teachers, taking the first ever teacher training course back in 2013. She has had experience in running private and funded courses across Hertfordshire and her passion to keep Parentskool thriving is one of the main reasons she was chosen to replace Sarah.
Kerry says “I am thrilled to be able to continue the amazing work of Parentskool, to maintain the organisation’s values, to reach it’s goals and to continue its mission in which I so strongly believe. I am very excited about the next chapter for this brilliant organisation and with the amazing work of a new team of highly skilled directors, I am sure we can do Sarah proud. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Sarah all the best with her new role, in which I am sure she will excel, and to thank her for entrusting me with what has been affectionately known as her third baby!”
Parentskool’s plans for the future include:
- Training a new batch of teachers in late 2016
- Investigating new geographical areas to move into
- Looking how to improve access for parents who cannot afford to pay for classes
- Seeking to acquire additional funding to help us reach our social goals
- Adding to and enhancing the services provided by Parentskool
Sarah Watkins says “My journey with Parentskool was very much like having a child; there were tears and heart ache, indescribable joy and hope, but most of all, at the end, a real sense of having achieved something fantastic. I completely trust Kerry to take Parentskool through it’s next phase of development and will of course be always watching to find out how things go. I wish Kerry all the best of luck in the future”.
Sarah is moving on to work with the Croydon based charity WAVE Trust (Worldwide Alternatives to ViolencE) as an Early Years Officer, tasked with helping the organisation to reduce child maltreatment by 70% by the year 2030. Sarah can be reached on linked in.
